Over the last two years we funded twelve new grants as part of the Prematurity Research Initiative (PRI). In 2007, we are providing $3 million in new funding for research aimed at preventing premature birth, supported by the PRI program.
Through our Campaign, we have been issuing a public “wake up call” about the growing problem of premature birth, and the serious consequences it has for children, families, and the health care system. We have asked people to support March of Dimes research to help find the answers, and they have. The new grants were made possible by your support as donors and volunteers. I want to thank you and give you advance information about this exciting research.
March of Dimes efforts to encourage investigators to engage in research on prematurity has made a difference – we received many high quality proposals directly focused on finding answers to the causes of prematurity and innovative approaches to prevention. Eight research projects were selected for funding.
